Memphis, TN, March 6, 2006 - Five VP Buildings facilities have received national recognition for plant safety from the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA), a national building industry association. Headquartered in Memphis, VP is one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of metal buildings. The MBMA annually recognizes metal building systems manufacturers who show exceptional commitment to assuring workplace safety.
The VP plant in Evansville, Wisconsin, was presented a Gold Safety by the MBMA. VP’s plants in Kernersville, North Carolina; Rainsville, Alabama; Turlock, California; and St. Joseph, Missouri, won Silver Awards. “Safety is something that is vitally important to VP Buildings, so obviously this award means a great deal to all of us,” said Robert Andrews, vice president of manufacturing at VP. “This is a reflection of our devotion and constant concern for employee safety.”
Of the 38 manufacturing facilities nationwide that submitted data, 29 awards were given – some presented to multiple locations within the same company. MBMA patterned the awards program to conform to OSHA safety standards; but MBMA’s criteria is that winning firms must have work-related accident and illness rates that are significantly below OSHA-reported averages. MBMA, currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, serves the metal building systems manufacturers and associate member suppliers.
Based in Memphis, Tennessee, VP Buildings engineers and manufactures steel building systems for low-rise commercial applications, including manufacturing, warehouse, school and commercial applications. The company markets its products through a network of more than 1,000 authorized builders. VP Buildings, which has affiliations in Europe, Asia and South America, is AISC certified.
